The Purple Flag accreditation was first achieved by Irish towns and cities in the years 2012 and 2013. Uptake of the award has risen ever since to a total of 19 at present on the island of Ireland. In 2014, ATCM invested in Ireland by setting up an Academy of practical workshops for groups of towns supporting each other in their year-long path to Purple Flag. The Academy runs annually and explores six areas of evening and night-time development while helping a location’s stakeholder teams to prepare for their application. It includes five Core Programme modules with a highlight event called Best Practice assessment at its core. The Purple Flag Academy is a supporting programme for new applicants, it is expected that all applicants work through the Purple Flag documentation in addition to this. Applicants are alternatively able to apply un-aided for Purple Flag using these documents. To express an interest in taking part in our next Academy please contact us.

Purple Flag destinations are required to work as a strong partnership both at inception and even more importantly on an ongoing basis with a need to showcase this at each renewal annually. ATCM support this approach by offering highlight events and meetings for the towns:
1. Purple Flag towns representatives meet twice per year to share best practice. Each of these meetings in the last year hosted representatives from at least 10 towns from varying backgrounds relevant to the ENTE.
2. Purple Flag weekend takes place in October encouraging Purple Flag towns and cities to celebrate their ENTE and their achievement of Purple Flag with events, offers and information about Purple Flag.
